Victims of Background Checks

  1. Steven Colbert's satire sometimes had an element of humor that appealed to both sides. The left could see their caricatures of the right while the right saw an accurate reflection. Unfortunately this was very early in his career - he went overboard and his humor only appealed to the left so that they could laugh at the right. It no longer was accurate enough to be considered a reflection. What was funny to the right though, was people of the left who believed the poor satire to be accurate. In other words, a person who was 'in the bubble' enough that they would actually believe Colbert's over the top act was an accurate portrayal ended up being the actual humor of the bit.

This Onion piece is similar. By thinking this is 'satirical' and 'edgy' enough to post to his blog, Mark becomes the joke. Thanks for the laughs Marxy.
