As to whether they stopped him? Uh, dude - WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE SHOOTER? Did he run away? No - A BUNCH OF GOOD GUYS WITH GUNS SHOWED UP AND SHOT HIS ASS. THAT'S WHAT STOPPED HIM.*

*You know as well as I do that LaPierre was SPECIFICALLY asking for COPS in schools when he said the phrase "good guys with guns" so trying to claim that cops don't count is just a fucking lie. But that's what you do.
If Chris Mintz had had some backup, they might've taken the shooter down similar to what happened on the train in France. He reacted in the right way. Too bad no one else did. He did absorb several bullets that would likely have gone into some people's heads. I read somewhere the shooter had to pause to reload or switch guns immediately afterwards, so there was a brief moment of opportunity. Of course, I'm sure Mr. Mintz would rather have had a pistol on him.
Interestingly, one of the guys who took down the train shooter in France is a student at Umpqua and would normally have been in class at the time it happened.
The Air Force vet, John Parker (who I agree will be lucky if he's not expelled), was in a different building 200 yards away. He didn't even hear the shots, he learned about what was happening second-hand, and was going to go see what was actually happening when the lockdown was ordered. I do believe I'd have ignored that order if I'd known it was a shooter. I'm not sure Mr. Parker knew for sure it really was a shooter until police were all over the place.
Yes, if it were merely stupidity, he would accidentally be right once in a while. Rather like Obama's foreign policy. It's not just stupidity in action, or he'd sometimes fuck up in our favor. :(
I've noticed he's been shutting down conversations over on Quora when the conversation gets uncomfortable for him. So much for his oft repeated desire for debate huh?

ReplyDeleteThere is one thing that is different about this case, though. Oregon has conceal carry and Umpqua Community College allows conceal carry on campus.
First - it's CONCEALED CARRY.
Second - No.
Anyone with a permit for a concealed weapon could be on those campuses, but they are barred from entering a building or sports arena.

Now as to your belief that guys without guns can stop a shooter. Here is one, and while I'm not disparaging his courage, all he got for his efforts was being shot seven times and not stopping the bad guy. That's the most likely outcome for that sort of activity. It's also the one you support. That says a lot about you.
